Living in Buenos Aires

We rented a very nice apartment in the center of Buenos Aires. It was close to "Plaza San Martin" and had a beautiful view to the "Rio de la Plata". This apartment was our starting point for great trips to Buenos Aires and its surroundings.

Temaikén

Temaikén is an elegant zoological garden close to Buenos Aires. It houses different animals like pelicans, lemurs, hippos, cougars, alligators and many more. We went there with Javier and his sons Gianluca and Fillipo. Unfortunately Berenice had to work this day and missed a happy day with the kids.

Pilar

However, we used the weekends to come together with Berenice too. One day we went to Pilar where they had a folklore festival. It was fun to see how the Argentineans cultivate their heritage. People come together, wear traditional clothes, dance and eat together. We went to a very nice restaurant too. Best part of the trip was our journey to the oldest still existing pulpería. Basically this is a store for the Gauchos.

It was not easy to find this old place. Most of the people we asked had never heard about it. At least we found one guy (he looked like a Gaucho) who knew the place. He explained us a short cut to it. This meant 15 kilometers dusty road. Robert remembered his adventurous trip to Patagonia together with Javier almost 15 years ago. For the rest of us it was just great fun driving through the beautiful landscape. Finally, at sunset we found the pulpería. It seemed as if times haven't changed anything there. We had a coke for us and milk for the kids and left again. What kind of life this must have been, living in the middle of nowhere about 100 years ago when there were no modern cars and paved streets?

Buenos Aires

During the week, when Javier and Berenice had to work, we were glad to meet Adriana and Fredich. We did some trips together and discovered new sides of Buenos Aires. We went to famous "La Martona" and the new quarter "Puerto Madero". We enjoyed it very much spending our time with Javier's parents. They are great people. We hope they had a good time with us young guys too.
