The Doctoral Cap

the doctoral cap

Robert received from his former colleagues from the chair of ergonomics an amazing doctoral cap, which deserves its own site in the internet.

Behind every detail stands a story, which influenced Roberts professional life significantly.

What is now behind every single motive?

Data Analysis Program SAVE Everything started with a joint project together with the DaimlerChrysler AG in the year 1999. The project was called "SAVE". The fundamental task for Robert was to program a data analysis software for the editing, classification and statistical analysis of data recorded during driving experiments. The program was developed to assist DaimlerChrysler in answering various ergonomic problems. The picture shows a screenshot of the data analysis software. The keys form the word "SAVE" (and are missing now on someone's keyboard).

DaimlerChrysler The Mercedes-Emblem stands for the cooperation with DaimlerChrysler (and is now missing on someone's car). During that time Robert has seen and learned a lot. For the trustful collaboration with the partners from DaimlerChrysler again a sincere thankyou in this context.

BMW The BMW-Emblem (is also missing on a car) stands for Roberts future at BMW.
The Mercedes-Emblem and the BMW-Emblem are affixed on a rotating disc.

Mercedes The Mercedes symbolises the driving experiments, which Robert carried out to determine various raw data.

BMW The BMW touring is a copy of the experimental car Robert used for his dissertation. It looked exactly the same!

the student catcher During the four years at the chair of ergonomics Robert advised approximately 60 student and diploma theses, to complete the data analysis software and to carry out the driving experiments for his dissertation. To recruit all these students he designed a very effective placard. The headline "Supervision and analysis of driving experiments" attracted the students like light attracts the moths. A copy of this notorious placard is glued on the hat. The picture shows Robert as a tyrannic pirate, who enslaves his inferiors. But the truth is that he was always kind, honest and fair to his students. He really thinks and hopes that!

Experiments with occlusive glasses At the end of his days at the chair of ergonomics Robert was responsible for an uncommon experiment, in which occlusive glasses were used.

LfE-Cruise But the clou of the doctoral cap is the LfE-Cruise button. A kind of this button was installed inside the test car and was of great importance for the dissertation. If you press the button on the doctoral cap you can hear a "please" and a "thank you" from the speaker above. This signalised the beginning or the end of an experimental task for the probands during the driving experiments.

To betray you something. The only reason for Robert to earn a doctorate was to receive such a great doctoral cap. If you look at the hat, I think you can understand that it was worth while it to shoulder all the exertions.

The doctoral cap is really unique and an excellent reminder of the time at the chair of ergonomics.
